The American Dream

The dream has been ripped to shreds in the eyes of some people. In today's world, we see people in their 70's working because cost of living has gone up and they can't afford it. We as a society need to help one another instead of making people save themselves. This country needs to pull together and stop being selfish. When a person decides to save the money and spends on redundant things that they don’t even need, they feel a brief of sense of accomplishment. Instead of spending money on useless things, they should invest their money into something productive such as education or entrepreneurship we can doubtlessly say that person has this will or perseverance. Sometimes the plans might backfire and the ones who really get out of the poverty could be the next generation. Not everyone can become a successful graduate or a multimillionaire. But they can still get out of poverty, right? The American dream is a common subject to all people, but it is something that everyone views in different ways. The American dream is different for everyone, but they share some of the same ideas of it. The dream depends on us making an honest living based on doing things that make us happy or feel good about ourselves.

John Henson ready to come back

The 911 calls were first reported on by WTMJ, an NBC-TV affiliate in Milwaukee. John Henson called the store three days earlier to ask what time they closed. He wanted to buy a Rolex watch. When Henson arrived, the door was locked the employees had closed the store. They noted the license plates on Henson's red Tahoe, which police said were from a dealer. The employee on one of the 911 calls said she was told by police to call should the car return. "The officer told us if they came back, we're supposed to call again," the woman said. "They're at our front door now and we're not letting them in. I am hiding in the office. I don't want them to see me out there. We're pretending like we're closed. They're looking in the window. They're just kind of pacing back and forth. I don't feel comfortable letting them in. I just really don't at all.” Police came to the store and finally determined that one of the men was Henson. The 911 operator said the police officer asked that the employee come to the front door.  "Why? I don't feel like it," she told the 911 operator. "Why do I have to come to the door. Can the officer come to the back? I'm not coming to the front door.” She ultimately unlocked the door so Henson could enter but asked that police remain while he shopped. Henson said last Tuesday that the president of Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers, Tom Dixon, met with him at the Buck' training center and apologized for the incident. This situation proves that African Americans are being put in box and marked dangerous. We can’t even by jewelry for ourselves or for a loved one without raising suspicion.

Racism at Mizzou

The issue is the school administration’s handling of several racist incidents that occurred this. A student said he was called racial slurs as he walked near campus. In the same letter, Concerned Student 1950 releases a list of demands, threatening "appropriate nonviolent actions" if they are not met by Oct. 28. Among the demands: President Tim Wolfe's resignation and apology, comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum," an increase in black faculty and staff to 10% and more. Many speak out that it's not enough. The Legion of Black Collegians and an alliance of students including members of the University football team associated who have launched and pushed the boycott at Missouri published a list of demands they want met. "We demand that the University of Missouri System President, Tim Wolfe, writes a handwritten apology to the Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demonstrators and holds a press conference in the Mizzou Student Center reading the letter. In the letter and at the press conference, Tim Wolfe must acknowledge his white male privilege, recognize that systems of oppression exist, and provide a verbal commitment to fulfilling Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demands. We want Tim Wolfe to admit to his gross negligence, allowing his driver to hit one of the demonstrators, consenting to the physical violence of bystanders, and lastly refusing to intervene when Columbia Police Department used excessive force with demonstrators." This whole situation is upsetting because some people are turning their heads and acting like this is the first time that this has happened at a university. I agree with the players and the students, this problem has been going on for too long and it’s getting worse.

Police brutality in SC

This video is the epitome of police brutality. The video becomes blurry after the officer and the student reach the front of the classroom, but the officer appears to restrain the student by putting her arms behind her back. In a longer version of the video, the officer looms over the student before grabbing her.  Just two days after a young black girl was assaulted by a police officer in her Spring Valley High School classroom in Columbia, S.C., the local school board held a public meeting to allow parents to express themselves. One man, who is unidentified but alludes to being a father to a child in the school district, has taken the Internet by storm.
His speech has now been viewed over 2 million times across social media platforms. It is, perhaps, the most poignant, passionate, powerful three minutes spoken about the pain of police brutality and racial injustice you will hear anywhere this year. The officer should have used some kind of other technique or he should have talked to her more instead of immediately going for a take down. If this is in the boundaries of proper police procedure then they need to change the way they handle these students. This is a female high school student and no matter what she did, the officer should have treated her as if she a regular criminal. Personally, I don't think race had anything to do with this particular situation because it says that he had a history of using too much force when it came to handling the students. White privilege does exist in America, even though people choose not to see it. Yes, I think that the author is saying that all white people are racists, but that obviously not true. If the student was a white female the situation might have been handled differently.
